Sorry, I don't have a solution, but I can let you know I had a similar
problem, which is why I started watching this list.

>From info I got from the archive, someone said the .. socketException:
create .. error appears when Jserv attempts to start a JVM and fails.
You should continue generating this error many times until Jserv finally
gives up.

The only advise on this I can give is to check your path to the java.exe
in .conf file. But this was correct in my situation, someone also
suggested trying to manually get the JVM started, but I'm not
knowledgable enough to get that done correctly and I never was able to
solve the problem.

Finally, luckily this was my second attempt at installing JServ; at home
it went flawlessly so the failed attempt at school did not completely
discourage me and I tried on another computer I had access to, the
installation worked fine.

success#1 windows95 first version, jdk1.1.7A
success#2 winNT, sp4 ; jdk1.1.8
failure windows95 later version (2?), jdk1.1.5

I considered the possibility of jdk version bugs, but since I had server
working at school I never checked it out.

If you solve your problem, please post the solution.
