The bug was an internal error when loading the invalid class name "["
It can be generated by just attempting to run the class "["

racssv15.is.bear.com:: scott 21 > java -version
java version "1.2.2"
HotSpot VM (1.0.1, mixed mode, build a)
racssv15.is.bear.com:: scott 22 > java '['

SunOS racssv15.is.bear.com 5.6 Generic_105181-14 sun4d sparc

This is not a hang of the vm, rather it is a crash. If your vm is actually
hanging you have
a different problem.
