Just as a folloup I tried blackdown jdk 1.2
with the EXACT same results.

I do have redhat6.0 with the stock glibc (2.1.1) but I believe
that all post regarding glibc problems were with the combination
of
Mandrake 6.1 -- IBM JDK1.1.8
