You are getting the error below because you dont have a C compiler loaded on
your server. You need to add the compiler and all the supporting files,
also be sure you have make on your server.

Hi,

I'm looking for a hand compiling Apache 1.3.9 on RedHat 6.0

I get the error listed below. I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

I do have gdbm installed, though I don't think my problem below is related
to that because I removed mod_rewrite and the errors disappeared, but not
the Abort part.

Thanks,
Marc Thompson

Creating Makefile in src
        + configured for Linux platform
+ setting C compiler to gcc
        + setting C pre-processor to gcc -E
+ checking for system header files
        + adding selected modules
        o rewrite_module uses ConfigStart/End
        disabling DBM support for mod_rewrite
(perhaps you need to add -ldbm, -lndbm or -lgdbm to EXTRA_LIBS)
        o dbm_auth_module uses ConfigStart/End
        o dbm_auth_module uses ConfigStart/End
        o rewrite_module uses ConfigStart/End
        disabling DBM support for mod_rewrite
(perhaps you need to add -ldbm, -lndbm or -lgdbm to EXTRA_LIBS)
+ checking sizeof various data types
+ doing sanity check on compiler and options
** A test compilation with your Makefile configuration
** failed. This is most likely because your C compiler
** is not ANSI. Apache requires an ANSI C Compiler, such
** as gcc. The above error message from your compiler
** will also provide a clue.
Aborting!
