Unlike in automatic mode, if the JVM crashes for some reason in manual mode,
there is nothing to restart it. Ari Halberstadt's chapter in the WROX book
mentions using an external monitoring package such as mon
(http://www.kernel.org/software/mon/). Does anyone have a jserv monitor for
this package? Or, could someone give me some pointers on what to monitor?

Also, I was thinking since mod_jserv already implements this logic, why
bother with an external package if there is some way to build a command line
version of the monitor/wrapper. I looked at jserv_wrapper.c and there is a
main conditionally compiled when JSERV_STANDALONE flag is defined. I was not
successful in building jserv_wrapper with this flag turned on (lots of
apache linker errors: I even tried linking with .a files from Apache
source). How do I build a standalone jserv_wrapper?
