Joe,

The error you are getting

SQLException: Server configuration denies access to data source
SQLState: 08001
VendorError: 0


Seems to indicate the the mySQL server is denying the JDBC connection to 
the dbuser you are trying to connect with.  Is there some kind of special 
permission you need in mySQL to connect via JDBC ?
