WHEN YOU POST, include all relevant version numbers, log files,
and configuration files. Don't make us guess your problem!!!

The main issues with IBM JDK 1.3 occur on SMP servers with two or more
processors. In that case IBM claims that many of the low-level kernel calls
in the Linux 2.2 are not implemented correctly for SMP. We have seen many
segfault crashes in this configuration on Pengiun Computing 2U Intel based
servers running RedHat 6.2 and the IBM JDK. The fix is to get Linux 2.4
tested and working with IBM's JDK or to move to Sun's JDK 1.3 which seems to
be more stable on the SMP platforms from our experience. One setting that did
help with stability was to set the environment variable:
export IBM_MIXED_MODE_THRESHOLD 0
This forces all code to be JITTED before running. It does help on SMP.
