The most likely reason for this problem is that the permissions of some
of the files in the archive are broken. In this case it most probably
can't load the fonts. Try this:
chmod 755 jdk1.2/jre/lib/i386/libsunwjit.so
chmod 644 jdk1.2/jre/lib/fonts/*
