I'd try an experiment. On my machine, I'm using nvidia's custom video
module (so I can play Terminus!) I'd try backing out to XFree's 'nv'
module, (breaks the game, though) and then back to whatever module does
generic svga.
If the other drivers don't crash, then I'd look for a newer video driver,
or investigate some new bug between that video driver, the new mesa,
and the new java3d.
It probably won't solve the problem but it should help narrow it down
some.
