Yes, performance can be increased since:
1) there is currently no hotspot in sparc jdk 1.3.0
2) some parts were compiled without optimization in order to bypass a
compiler problem.

The intention was to go to 1.4 immediately, and to skip improvements on
1.3.0 or 1.3.1. Unless people really require it...
