It's not total disregard, it's a question of where Sun applies the
precious resources. If Microsoft succeeds in wiping out Java as a viable
client-side platform on Windows, the importance of VolatileImage (among
many other things) will go down the toilet. What we Linux types do with
client-side Java is lost in the noise level of this loud battle.

This isn't to say that Sun shouldn't fix the problem - they should. But
the problem will be rendered irrelevant if they don't successfully battle
back against the Evil Empire.

I have no idea if the Blackdown folks are addressing this problem for
their JDK1.4 release - resources are even more precious for Blackdown
than they are for Sun. Of course, you or I can choose to pick up the
problem once the JDK1.4 sources are published. :-)
