Ability to support, troubleshoot and assist other teams (*Network, Storage,
Windows, Linux*) with supporting remote *VMware environment* for site
migrations and remote changes.
Experience with Command-Line operation of *VMware ESX 3.5 administration*
Experience with building and configuring *NEW VMware ESX hosts and clusters*
Responsible for the implementation and on-going technical support of
the *Staples
local and remote VMware environments
*
Primary Responsibilities:
• Proactively monitors infrastructure for optimal performance and provides
input for capacity planning
• Supports development activities and manages projects, and efforts that
require specialized infrastructure skills
• Defines infrastructure requirements for the implementation of new
applications
• Provides technical support for Staples' business unit representatives and
IS organizations as required
• Familiarity with *Network access and Troubleshooting, VLANs, Port Groups
and ESX CLI*
• Identifies areas where existing policies and procedures require change or
where new ones need to be developed
• Develops and maintains policies and procedures, including gap analysis and
periodic updates of existing procedures.
• Creates and maintains all relevant documentation
• Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement
• Provides technical support (including participation in a 24x7 on call
rotation) for complex production systems and services
• Provides change support for *Remote VMware environments* (including
weekend Remote Site support)
Qualifications
Basic:
• High School Diploma or *GED required*
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a *VMWare System Engineer*
• Experience with Virtualization build methodologies, performance tuning and
memory management, and ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting
• Excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
• Bachelors Degree in *Computer Science and equivalent work experience*
• *VCP certification* highly desired
• Preferred experience as a *Linux Systems Administrator (Redhat)*
• *RHCE certification* highly desired
• Understanding of Project Management methodologies
• Experience in developing scalable policies and procedures, including
system standards, capacity planning, and centralized management (experience
within enterprise environments preferred)
• Familiarity with a variety of *storage technologies including SAN and NAS
storage* platforms
