Michel,

This sounds like the infamous "ATI bug" that is described
in gory detail in bug report #4713003 (and other related bug
reports). There is a bug in the ATI drivers that is triggered
by the way Java2D uses Direct3D, starting with release 1.4.1.
Fortunately, the problem is solved in 1.4.1_02 and 1.4.2 (and
future releases, of course). Grab the latest 1.4.1 or 1.4.2
from the web site and it should do the trick. Let us know
if it doesn't in case there's something else going on, but
chances are this is your problem.

(Note: some people had a problem with java web start continuing
to use an older/crashing release even after installing the
new fixed release. make sure you completely uninstall the
previous release before installing the new one to work around
this problem).

Chet.

Hello,
Has anyone heard something about such a thing ?

See the application error traces below (content of a file named
'hs_err_pid788.log'). It seems there is a bug in a java2d native
function. If yes, is it solved in java 1.4.2 ?

My plateform is windows XP version 2002 SP1, 2 GHz, All-in-Wonder Radeon
graphics card, 512 Mo RAM.

javaw.exe is used.

My application opens a window, then the user opens a sub-window. In the
sub-window he makes some scroll through the graphic presented. Then he
closes the sub-window by clicking on the cross in the upper right
corner. Then he quits the application by clicking on the cross in the
upper right corner of the main window.

Then this blocks completly the man-machine interface, the mouse can't be
moved anymore : the only way is to reboot the machine.

Thanks in advance for any help/answer.
