I've act trouble with the file
\winnt\system32\ActPanel.dll
when switching versions. I've found it best to uninstall and then
remove that file by hand when I have problems with the panel not
coming up. (of course save a copy of that file if you delete
it manually...).
I've also encountered problems where newer versions of the
plugin don't recognize older copies of
\winnt\profiles\YOUR_NAME_HERE\.java\properties
Either delete it, or 'force' a reapplication of your plugin
settings (by changing a parameter and changing it back).
Go figure...
