Did you go to the Java Developer Connection?
Under Products and API's, http://java.sun.com/products/
There is a selection menu labeled "Product Shortcuts",
select Java3D, you will see:
Java 3D API Version 1.2 Alpha1:
this is the API which is documentation.
If you are looking for a Reference Implementation, come
down about 4 main titles. you will see:
Java3D 1.1.2 API released as a main title,
below that are subheadings for:
Java3D 1.1.2 Implementation.
If you go to the Early Access you can find
Java3D 1.2 Alpha API, which as a subheading for
"Download Java 3D 1.2 Alpha1 software"
