We have seen poor performance with the ATI cards and ATI's OpenGL support
is bad in general. Have had excellent luck with:

NVidia TNT2 and GeForce256
Diamond Fire GL1 Professional

on PCs. The GeForce drivers for NT 4.0 appear to be a bit shakey, and
NVidia appears
to have stopped releasing new NT drivers, although they are available from
other sites.
Nonetheless, GeForce works fine. The Diamond card is a solid performer although
expensive.
