Well, if you are going to make lots of them, I'd suggest a custom built
model of a hemisphere. There is no innate hemisphere geometry.

Attached it an example 3DS hemisphere courtesy of 3DS Max 2.5
You can use the ncsa packages to import it. If licensing is a worry, convert
one to the format included with Java3D.
