HI,
Is java3d going to be avavilable for use over the
web without downloads.
We are currently trying to decide how we are going
to do a web based 3d package to run over the web (as applets) and are really
looking at making it so there are few downloads. Due to this we are looking for
a solution where there is no need to download extra plugins or runtime
environments. Currently to run java 3d you need to have a few extra plugins most
of which i've had problems with when i've tried to use them. I've got
the runtime installed and then installed the implementation for java3d
aswell. This really isn't suitable for a product that is supposed to be pretty
much plugin free.
I assume like most of things in java it will
eventually be incorporated into browsers so that extra downloads aren't needed
to make it run java3d. If this is so, how far away from that happening are we.
If we're no longer than around 6-12 months away then java 3d mya be an option.
If it's not going to happen or will be longer then we may have to look for other
possible solutions and abandon java3d.
It's just java3d is by far the best option
currently apart from this slight problem.
Hope someone can help.
