Shaun,
I'm running XP Professional.  Java3D is running fine on my PC. I'm using JDK 1.3.1_01 with the latest version of the Java 3D SDK.  As I remember I manually pointed the Java 3D SDK installer to my C:\jdk1.3.1_01 directory and installation was fine after this.

The account you use to install the JDK and Java 3D SDK will probably need administrator rights based on reports I've heard about people installing other software on XP.

Good luck,
Justin.

Subject: [JAVA3D] 3D and Windows XP

I have attempted to install the Java 3D APIs/ SDK on the Professional and Home editions of Windows XP with no success. On both versions, I attempted the install with both JDK 1.3.1 and JDK 1.4-Beta 3.

Windows XP Professional:

- Java 3D install could not find any JDK. (this occurred when trying with JDK 1.4 installed, then un-installing it and installing JDK 1.3.1).

Windows XP Home Edition

- Java 3D install went through the install process, but skipped the step that says it found a JDK. When you try to code a Java 3D app, it cannot find the Java 3D APIs.

On both version

- Java 3D online content cannot be viewed on either Windows version. For example, trying to view applets on http://www.java3d.org

- The only way to install the Java 3D APIs on either platform is manually. This step still does not allow you to view 3D content online.

* note: I have install the Java3D APIs / SDK on Windows 2000 with great success.

I would appreciate a quick response, because I have posted my concerns on every bulletin board I could find, with limited success.

Thanks in advance
