This list documents the same response from Sun dated September 2001: "...We have everything working in the lab and it's very cool. We are waiting on the remaining pieces from groups withing Javasoft, and when everything's ready, we'll be the first optional package available for auto-download ..." Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the java3d guys@Sun are doing all they can. They've proven to be very good at what they do. But someone or something has prevented this from materializing for a long time now, and there is no sign we're getting any closer to having an auto-install package, nor a license to build and distribute one ourselves.
