Problem files with the "new" X3D Loaders often are
NO PROBLEM with the old, reliable Sun VRML Loaders.

The problem Jacky Rymasz had with Web3d.org's "HelloWorld"
X3d / VRML World is not a problem with the Sun VRML Loaders
( loading the original, equivilent VRML file ).

Problem with new X3d Loaders reported to Java3d-interest list
-------------------------------------------------------------
| Date: Fri, 10 Jan 2003 ...
| From: Jacky Rymasz ...
| Subject: Rf. : [JAVA3D] More X3D M6
|
| I installed Xj3D M6 from the .exe on Win NT SP6.
| I have JDK 1.4.0.1 and J3D 1.3.
|
| I tried the "hello world" example from
|
| http://www.web3d.org/TaskGroups/x3d/translation/
| examples/HelloWorld.html
|
| ... [ It failed and ] I got this exception .. :
|
|
| org.web3d.vrml.lang.VRMLException:
|
| SAX Error: org.web3d.vrml.lang.UnsupportedComponentException:
| There is no definition information for the component
| helloComponentorg.web3d.vrml.lang.UnsupportedComponentException:
|
| ... at org.web3d.vrml.renderer.DefaultNodeFactory.addComponent(
| DefaultNodeFactory.java:390 )
|
|
| Why so many corrections have to be made and
|
| why is it still not working properly ?

Use what works best, the Sun's VRML Loaders have
been working reliabably ( not perfectly ) since
late 1999, and can animate Web3d.org's H-Anim Avatars
in a browser, and respond to user mouse events, with
Sound and without expensive Certificates on Windows & Linux.

|
| This may be a bug in our handling.
|
| We'd come across this a couple of times before and
| each time I make a change and think I've fixed it,
| only to have it pop up somewhere else.
|
| The old whack-a-mole issue :(
|
| The real issue is one to do with
| the way the spec works and to which
| I have voiced many a strenous objection
| to the spec authors about.
|
| The definition of MFStrings in the XML
| encoding is different to that of the VRML
| encoding. ...
|
| That's very bad specification design
| in my book and one of the issues
| I really dislike about the XML encoding.

Ok.

People that don't want to wait on Justin's mole whacking
problem solving methodology can use the Sun VRML Loaders
where those problems are not a problem.

Use what works best, and you may find yourself using
the Sun VRML Loaders.
