Did you create the Canvas3D from a GraphicsConfigTemplate3D where you
had called setStereo(REQUIRED)?  What happens if you run any of the Java
3D example programs with j3d.stereo=REQUIRED?

There have been numerous reports of not being able to get a stereo
visual from Nvidia hardware.  Apparently some Nvidia drivers don't
support the standard OpenGL or D3D mechanisms for creating stereo
canvases.  From what I've seen from their web site, they support stereo
for specific applications only (the most popular games as far as I can
tell).  I not even sure if the game developers themselves have access to
the stereo API; the Nvidia drivers seem to interpose stereo rendering
into the standard monoscopic interface.
