640x480 ? So it is resized/scaled before it becomes a texture ? That's bad.
(try 512x512)

The texture.png you have postet is identifed as: PNG image data, 269 x 194,
8-bit colormap, non-interlaced.

8-bit colormap = saved with palette. That's bad too (if you use more then 1
texture).

Try the loading to attached jpeg instead. It's saved in 24Bit RGB, 128x128 (do
_not_ scale it before using it as texture).
