Hi, there's a plugInn called ForExportOnly, it'll be able to export an OBJ... (eg foundable at www.terradreams.de) also bmp, raw....so a possible greyscale Image work arround would also be possible but the exported OBJ wouldn't be a very nice representation of a Grid... to much senseless x-y coordinates...I'd written a converter to convert those files into a VRML ElevationGRID, which is much more efficient for loading time... of course the amount of vertices stills, just a better format description...
let me know if you want mor help in this topic, terragen is one of my favourite app :-)
But I never tried the "HowDo" posted by andrew, sound good :-) regards rolf

How do you actually get the Terragen file to load in Java though?

Does anyone know how I can import Terragen terrains as a Shape3d. What loader do I need?
There's a chapter on using Terragen in "Java Graphics and Gaming" at http://fivedots.coe.psu.ac.th/~ad/jg/
The direct link is to chapter 17.5: http://fivedots.coe.psu.ac.th/~ad/jg/ch175/

(I haven't updated the online chapter, but the latest version of Terragen has the option to generate orthogonal projections, explicitly designed for extracting a texture from a scene.)
