I get ~40 FPS in timedemo at 800x640, far better than a VoodooI. Make sure that inside of QuakeII you have selected the OpenGL driver. I forget the exact name they give it, but it's not the 3dfx opengl or software emulation. Could you be running an old driver for your Viper 550?
