Well, I don't have an answer for you but if you read section 10.3 entitled
"Picking" in the "Java 3D API Specification" document it specifically says that
you can "Discover which vertex within an object is closest to a specified ray".
Once you know the vertex, you should be able to map that to the texture you
have overlaid.
