I hope that many people are considering running for the Technical
Review Board in the upcoming Web3D elections. Clearly busy times
are ahead of us. The next group of individuals will need to be willing
to review other technologies in addition to good ol' VRML. More than
that, most expectations point to a much more proactive group, perhaps
a Technical Advisory Board instead of just review board. This is
definitely a chance to Do Something and make a difference. Hard work
is guaranteed, but everyone is still able to keep a real job in real life
at the same time.
If such challenges appeal to you, great! Details are at
http://www.web3d.org/news/99vrb.htm
Please be aware that "Anyone in the Web3D Community at large can stand
for election to the VRB/TRB." You'll need to write a position statement
pronto - directions are included in the announcement above. Nomination
deadline is imminent: Monday February 22, 1999. Last year's electee
statements are also available at
http://www.web3d.org/about/vrb.html
NPS is willing to provide one of two necessary nomination endorsements for all
serious candidates. Other consortium member companies are likely similarly
willing to support sincere candidates.
Thanks for considering this big opportunity.
all the best, Don
