I'll give you all my excuse.

I was in the process of learning VRML and progressing nicely. As my worlds
became more complex I had to start using javascript...... soon I was finding
limitations in javascript as well..... at some point I thought "I guess I
need to learn Java to be able to do what I really want" Soon I was trying
to learn Java and VRML..... when all of the sudden I saw the beta Release of
Java3D....... then I thought to myself.... I really know nothing about
Java, and have an extensive background in 3D graphics and animation.....
why not learn Java through Java3D...

For me at least, it made learning Java easier, and I needed Java to use
VRML.... so it was a natural progression from there.

Now I'm writing programs in Java3D.... importing geometry from VRML which I
translate from AutoCad or Polyray. I Like being able to have a Windows
interface integrated into the final result. And I like having total control
over everything that's going on.

Also with a "true" programming language like Java3D I'm much more likely to
be able to do things otherwise impossible like non-Euclidean worlds....
recursive worlds... particle systems.... flocking behavior.... etc........
