All,
We've reorganised our web site and made a lot more Java 3D information
available. You can also run BenchJ3d, our Java 3D benchmark.
http://www.tornadolabs.com (News)
BenchJ3d can be:
- run as an applet or application
- supports resizing of the Java 3D canvas (application only) at runtime
- renders in immediate and/or retained mode
- renders using alpha transparency.
- allows objects to be dynamically added to the scenegraph at runtime
- reports frames per second to the console window.
I have run some tests on 3 (Wintel) machines and posted the results. I'd be
more than happy to compile results if others would like to share them. With
such a wide variety of hardware, drivers and JREs I hope to make this a
useful resource for programmers considering whether to opt for Java 3D over
straight OpenGL implementations... and then there's Fahrenheit coming.
BenchJ3d will also be enhanced in the future to include other features, such
as texture maps and behaviours. I'm open to suggestions here, so let me know
what you think should be included!
I hope you find something of interest there. The web site only went live
yesterday, so if you have any problems please drop me a line.
Best of luck in all your endeavours,
Daniel Selman
