Currently the jdk for irix has topped off around jdk1.1.7 or something
relatively close,
and java3d is only available on win32, Solaris/SPARC.  However, stereoscopic
vision and tracking devices are supposed to be implemented in Java3d;
I'm not sure of the state, but it is worth looking into.  If so, you could
grab one of the diamond cards that has Stereographics ir support and hack
away at it.
