NASA/GSFC Code 588 Virtual Environment Testbed and Century Computing, a
division of AppNet Systems, proudly announces the latest release of the
Visual Analysis Graphical Environment (VisAGE) 2.0. VisAGE is a free
platform independent, distributed, multimedia, visualization development
environment. Developers can easily provide advanced visualization
capabilities for distributed data-centric applications by using VisAGE's
robust framework of application programming interfaces (API), VisAGE 2.0
takes advantage of new API's available in the Java 2 Platform, including
Java2D, Java3D, Java Foundation Classes, and JavaHelp.
The VisAGE toolkit consist of three distinct parts:
- suite of visualization components
- thin client API
- data server API
It is also delivered with a sample data server and client
applet/application.
Visualization components can be used as stand-alone Java Visualization
components or as part of a VisAGE client. As stand alone, a user can
incorporate a variety of visualizations within their Java applet or
application. Visualizations are based on the Model/View/Controller design
paradigm. A VisAGE client can be any applet or application that implements
the VisAGE client API. A VisAGE Data server is a "light" adapter that acts
as a front-end to any data source. A VisAGE client can communicate to any
VisAGE Data server. A VisAGE data server communicates directly with the
original data source.
