See instructions on Thomas's page at http://www.auinger.de/index3.htm or
in one of my letters earlier on in this list. Ahh, i've found it:

First install Java 2 Platform (JDK 1.2.1) on your computer. If u r going
to run JDK 1.2.x compatible applets u will need to install JRE either
(Java plug-in is included in JRE). Do NOT install JRE to the dir JDK was
installed to. If u r running Windows system go to the dir u intalled JRE
into (the default is C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\), from there to
1.2\JRE\lib\ext\. Move all files from ext to lib (that is one dir up).
Though under Windows systems java.exe and javaw.exe is written into
Windows\System dir. u'll need to set path variable in autoexec.bat to
YourJDKdir\bin directory, because only in this dir there is java
compliler (javac.exe) and actually otherwise it wouldn't work anyway.
---------

For development in Java3D install library to your JDK dir.
