The FAQ site has just been updated with a new version of the PickingExt
picking utilities (http://tintoy.ncsa.uiuc.edu/~srp/java3d/picking.html).
These are some utility classes which can be used in place of the
com.sun.j3d.utils.behaviors.picking package. They allow Java3D 1.1
applications to be able to pick lines and points.

This package is an interim solution. Java3D 1.2 will have improved picking
utilities which will be much better than the pickingExt package. The new
utilities will be backwards compatible with the J3D 1.1 utilities, but not the
pickingExt package, so plan to update your code when you go to 1.2. The new
utilities will not be in the 1.2 alpha1 release, but will be present by the
beta release.

The update has only a few changes from the previous version of pickingExt:
-- the set of three .jar files has been combined into a single .jar file,
-- there is also a .zip file for those folks who have had trouble with
       downloading the .jar files.
-- the PickTest program source now includes the classes which were missing.
-- there is a new program, PickHighlight, which shows how to do pick
highlighting and shows a problem with the pickingExt utilities and a
       partial workaround.

The problem shown by PickHighlight has been reported in various forms on this
alias. The pickingExt package may be unable to pick isolated points,
horizontal line or vertical lines. Further details and a workaround are in
the PickHighlight source.
