I wonder if I missed out. It seems like the Commodore 64 was the computer to have. We had an Amstrad CPC 464. I think it was probably a bit out of date by the time we got it. It was certainly second hand. My brother had a ZX81 but I am pretty sure it was dead by the time I tried to use it so I never saw it in action. I have found JavaCPC which seems like a decent Java Amstrad emulator.
My friend growing up had an Acorn Electron which as far as I know is basically like a cut down BBC Micro. I don't know how well known the Acorn line of computers is outside the UK as it was a UK computer line which was ultimately crushed by US computer dominance. Which nationality was Atari? I think those were especially popular in Germany. My friend had an Atari 800 XL and my older brother had an Atari ST. There were lots of Acorn Archimedes computers in Hight School which took over from the old BBC Micros. These machines were pretty ahead of their time using a GUI when PCs of the day were mostly stuck in DOS. I played a bit with an Acorn Emulator but the one I found which works on a mac is only an Alpha version and quite buggy. It would be fun to play Starfighter 3000 again. I am still exited by the prospect of ARM chips in desktop class computers again. Perhaps I could try and make a HAckorn Risc PC. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Java Posse" group.
