once you have compiled and run your program within Netbeans, you can try 
using the *cmd prompt* (note *cmd* instead of *command*, I'm using XP).
To compile your program.....C:\dir>javac xxxx.java......dir is where 
your file program is located
To run it  C:\dir>java -jar xxxxx.jar
this is what i did;
C:\Documents and Settings\ybico\My 
Documents\NetBeansProjects\MyJavaProjects\MyHelloProject2\src\myhelloproject2> 
javac MyHelloProject2.java
C:\Documents and Settings\ybico\My 
Documents\NetBeansProjects\MyJavaProjects\MyHelloProject2\dist>java -jar 
MyHelloProject2.jar
