I had the same problem. I downloaded jdk-6u14-javafx-1_2-windows-i586.exe and then launched the netbeans installer - netbeans-6.7-ml-windows.exe then it worked fine. I had tried various jre versions and none of them worked. Hopefully the higher version of netbeans is not going to be a problem for this course.
