I quite agree.  Being a native English, okay American, speaker I too
interpreted the instructions to come up with "Removing the second
character from each name and displaying the new names." I see that I
focused my attention mainly on the "taking the 2nd character" and less
on the "new first name".  Perhaps, due to the discussion here,  a
change to the instructions may be to state (or something like this)
"It creates a new first name by using the 2nd character of each String
from the array". Note the word change of "using" instead of "taking".
