What about going to http://www.filehippo.com
you should be able to find adobe acrobat 8.0 with a lot less problems.

Rick, I don't get it. That link brings you to the main Adobe screen. It
doesn't deal specifically with downloading the newer version.
I may have missed something. Can you help?

Hi Marilyn,
Try this:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
Look for the, "continue" button near the bottom of the page.
and then arrow down a little more, and uncheck the checkboxes for the additional software.
once you have done this, then garow back up to the continue button
and hit enter on it.
On the next page, just search for the word, "download" until you find the download button. Below that you will find a checkbox for the Google toolbar, if you don't want it, then uncheck that box and go back to the download button, and press enter.
Note:
This appears to be a download manager for Adobe, so when you run the file,

it will download and install the Adobe Reader.
Seems like a lot of hoops to jump thru, but I didn't see any other alternatives.
HTH,
Richard Justice

Hi, Rick. I just downloaded Adobe Reader 8, having heard on this list that
there are security problems with Adobe 7. I downloaded it as html but it
does not appear in the control panel list or my program list. Do I need to do something else or could it be that the download did not work? Thanks for
any ideas. Marilyn
