If my memory serves me correctly, the conversion from Word to Excel works best if you have the info in a Word Table. Select the entire table or the portion that you want to move into Excel. If selecting all, try not to select information outside the table. Copy and then move to the excel file to paste. .
If you decide to cut and paste individual chunks of info from Word to a cell in Excel, You will need to be in the "Edit" mode of the Excel cell that you are pasting into. Locate the cell and press F2, then paste. There might be a Paste Special feature in Excel that eliminates the need to do this, but it has been a while since I've done this, I can't remember.
