Lenny,

First off,  you need not name the file with the TXT extension because when
you have the file highlighted and go to the FILE menu, "Edit" is one of your
options to select (not in the "EDIT" sub-menu).  You can use the "HTM"
extension right off and still be able to open it with Notepad (provided you
have Notepad set as your default HTML editor in the Options/Programs tab.

Now, the problem you're having sounds a lot like a problem I reported to FS
concerning JAWS 8.  I suggest you go with JAWS 7.0 or 7.1 while doing this
to see if the problem still occurs.
