First, the OS is LINUX -- not Lenix! And Dave is right, JAWS cannot function on that OS.
However, you can access LINUX computers by virtue of PC software that emulates terminals and via TELNET connections. Depending on what you need to do, TELNET is probably the most straight forward means to communicate with a LINUX computer. This allows you to open a login session that functions much like a user would access the old DOS environments. To do this effectively you'll need some pretty sophistacated understanding of UNIX/LINUX systems. There are online manual pages for specific commands, but unless you have some basic understanding of the purpose of those commands you will likely not even know where to start. Other possibilities are software such as Hummingbird Exseed and PCXWare; these permit your PC to function in a more GUI-based mode. Although I don't have any experience with the LINUX native speech utilities, I understand that they do exist although they are not as well honed as JAWS. If you have further interest please feel free to contact me off-list. By the way, I was a software engineer at Bell Laboratories for almost 20 y ears; Bell Labs is where UNIX (the foundation of LINUX) was developed and heavily used. I have an in-depth understanding and knowledge of these Operating Systems. ---------------- Bill Gallik E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - "What others think of us would be of little moment did it not, when known, so deeply tinge what we think of ourselves." - Paul Valery Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: http://www.jaws-users.com Address for the list archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com To post to this group, send email to jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help from Mailman with your account Put the word help in the subject or body of a blank message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Use the following form in order to contact the management team http://www.jaws-users.com/managers.php If you wish to join the Blind Computing list send a blank email to the following address: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
