Priscilla, I believe that there is a way to set your tabs in Word.  You 
don't have to rely on the pre-set tabs.  This is probably something you 
already know. But just in case, you'll find it either under the page 
settings or under tools, depending on which version of Word is being used.

There's also an  alignment feature which can be used to make sure that all 
of the text is set on one margin.  Then, you can move down and carefully 
adjust those portions which require indenting.  I know I'm talking to a 
teacher here but once you know precisely how far each tab is going to take 
you, you can then employ the simple but effective tab counting process which 
has been used for many years.  3 tabs = 30 spaces from the edge.
This is an arbitrary number but I'm sure that you get the idea.  Personally, 
I prefer Word hands down over Word Perfect.  I found that program difficult 
to use and somewhat esoteric in its command structure.  However, that's a 
matter of taste I'm sure.
At least, Word Perfect worked well with the Jaws program in those days.
