Dear List In common with I think a lot of people I have gradually increased the speed of Jaws as I have got used to the voices at speed. This certainly makes me more efficient.
I started at 25% which I think is default and am now at 50% which is probably slow for a lot of people but hopefully I can still improve. However is anybody aware if there is a known Jaws speech rate which approximates to the speed of an a average sighted reader. I realise a fast sighted reader will always outperform a jaws reader but not everybody is fast. I don't know if this information is out there but it would be kind of reassuring to know at what rate Jaws should be cranked up to become equivalent to an average person reading with eyes. It is a kind of ambition of mine to read as fast as a sighted reader if possible.
