Well we'll just need to investigate it here soon. David Ferrin www.jaws-users.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Becky Buckner" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com> Sent: Thursday, October 11, 2007 11:19 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] quick time alternative
Hi David and all. I'll be interested to get your take on Quick Time. I remember downloading it back a couple of years ago, but ended up taking it out because of some problems I had.Unfortunately, I don't remember the problems, but just that I did remove it. If it is accessible like you say then I'll go and track it down for posting up on the web site. Can you give me any further details on it? It proves what a comprehensive list of resources you have up there. A treasure trove really and saves a lot of time trying to see if programs work, Still I suppose the presence of this program has been advertised to the list. On another point I downloaded the excellent real alternative from the jaws user programs page. This prompted me to look for QuickTime alternative which also appears to be a good utility from the same source but is not I think on the page. Have you had a look at QuickTime alternative? It seems much less invasive than the actual QuickTime. The only problem I found was that you need to type in manually your destination folder during setup. I think some encyclopaedias need QuickTime to play media files. You are correct in that it is very small and behaves well just sitting in the system trey. I guess I got tired of editing all of my script files to employ the auto maximize function, although I still use it for programs that JAWS does not offer support out of the box so to speak. An annoying feature of notepad and IE has been that guaranteeing that they open in a maximised window can prove difficult. I can open blank documents in notepad in a maximised window by editing the shortcut properties but until now I could not force notepad to open maximised when opening a text file in explorer. I am just trying a free utility called autosizer which so far had worked brilliantly and I have happily been reading text files with notepad opening automatically in a maximised window when I click on the filename. It apparently works with Outlook Express as well. I got it from http://www.southbaypc.com/AutoSizer/ When run it goes into the system tray so I suppose it should be put in your startup folder if you want to use it all the time. Seems fairly small and unobtrusive. I have only been using it today but it has been very good so far. NOD32 reckons its ok.
