Chris, As Michael pointed out, you should start with looking for an updated Audio driver on the Sony site. You can try Narrator on the machine and I suspect you will see the same sluggish audio response when typing which verifies this issue. Most manufacters did not have proper audio drivers done for Vista until well after Vista released so we have seen alot of this. Even with the updated drivers, it still will not feel as responsive as XP. Installing JAWS 9 will then feel very responsive. Even under XP, you'll find JAWS 9 more responsive. Regards, Eric
