The only viruses to exploit having the preview pane on were the worm 
variants of the Happy99 virus, which occurred in 2000/2001:  and Microsoft 
have since patched the outlook programs with more secure coding to make a 
virus attack by that means more difficult and unlikely.

Hi, Victor.  From what I understand, it does relate to viruses.  That's the
only reason I could think of for not having the preview pane on.
