Yes, I believe that for around 200 to 300 dollars you can buy "Readiris Pro 11". This doesn't require any service maintenance agreements and is highly efficient at OCR. It is mostly accessible through the JAWS friendly menu system. I believe if one googles it there may be a free demo too.
