Thanks, Mike. A useful suggestion, but I'm still stuck with the Chrome sales page as my homepage. I hope someone can advise me how to set a different homepage.
For people's convenience, you explain how to navigate Chrome settings without needing to turn off the virtual cursor. In JAWS settings, you recommend the following settings; Frame show start & end, should be checked. In line frames show, should be on. These settings must be made when focus is on the Chrome settings page. JAWS distinguishes between the Chrome domain and the Chrome browser. Thus, while inline frames in the settings area is set to on, it can be off for the browser. I wouldn't make these settings your universal defaults, and I think Mike would agree. If he doesn't, he's sure to let us know. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike B. Read all the way through. From: Ann Byrne via Jfw Would it help to turn off the quick keys with insert-z? I needed to get to a dialog today and that was the trick. Also someone else suggested shift-enter instead of just enter. good luck! Ann From: Mike B Hi Ann, Thank you very much, pressing, Insert / Jaws key + Z, is the trick but, this keystroke toggles the virtual cursor mode On / off. Press enter on the Settings option then press, Insert + Z, to turn the virtual cursor off & you can tab through the Settings options. Or you can press the Alt key to open the list, arrow up to Settings, press, Insert + Z, to turn the virtual cursor off, then press enter on Settings & you can tab through the options. Shift + Enter does not work. Take care. Mike From: Mike B Hi All, Running Widows 7 Pro, Chrome, & Jaws 15 thru 17 latest. When in Chrome if you press the, Alt key, it opens a vertical view of the menues. Well, in J17 when I would arrow down to the, Settings Option & press enter to open, & here is where my problems would begin in J17. In J15 & 16 after pressing enter on the Settings Option I can tab through all the various options but, with J17 I had to turn the virtual cursor off, Insert + Z, before I could navigate through this menu. After some playing around in Jaws 17's Quick Settings, Insert + V, I found that having these 2 settings set the way they're shown below allowed me to navigate the Settings Menu with J17 using the tab key just like with J15 & J16, without having to turn the virtual cursor off. This might not work for everyone but, it worked for me & it's something y'all can try if you experience the same thing I encountered. Here are the 2 settings as they should be: Heading and Frame Options Frame show start & end, should be checked. In line frames show, should be on. Note: For Chrome settings purposes, you want in-line frames on. for website navigation purposes, to skip past ads, you want in-line frames off. The point remains that, ideally, when we consider a suggestion to change a setting to solve one problem, we should be aware of the consequences of the change. Hope this helps others than myself. Take care. Mike Sent from my iBarstool. I want to look at settings in Chrome. However, when I press enter on "Settings" in the Chrome menu, all I get is a window with the word "settings" in it. Nothing works: enter, right-click, applications key, alt. It stays static. When I ask JAWS what kind of window it is, I get the following message, and I'm wondering if anyone knows what I should do: Window Classes - Chrome New Class Assigned Classes Chrome_RenderWidgetHostHWND Assign to: 3State Button CheckBox ComboBox Dialog Edit EditCombo ExtendedSelectListBox Graphic GroupBox HeaderBar HotKey OK Cancel Add Class Remove Class For Help, press INSERT+F1 For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
