Look under Options, and e-mail I think.  I know it is in the options tab
somewhere.  Mine does it.

No, when you do alt+s to send an email, there is a way to tell it to close
the reply after sending rather than going back to the message itself that
you have just replied to.

I don't know if I understand your question. If you are asking how to close
an open email then all you have to do is press alt F4 or go to the next
email in the list of emails you have received. That will close the open one.
