Hi,

For languages on a web page to work properly with JAWS you need two things
to be in sync.

Firstly, you need the JAWS "Detect Language" option to set on in the JAWS
settings. Find this by hitting JawsKey plus V then tab to the list of
options and down arrow to find the language options.

The web page developer also has to tag the correct language for the web page
content. Each time the developer wants text to be in a different language
they should add a language tag to indicate the correct language. This
language tag is part of the html code that is written by the developer or,
more likely these days, output by the web authoring tool used by the
developer. In this case I suspect that the language tag for the entire site
is Italian and is not changed to English for the English text. Thus, JAWS
language detect reads the tag that says the text is Italian and speaks the
English text in Italian as it has no indication that the languae has
changed. Yu can't change this language tag.

I hope this is not too confusing.

Ciao!

Take care,

Gerry Ellis

Hi Stephen,

I have Language Detection turned off, & it still reads in Italian.
Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Hi Vikki and List

Have you tried turning off the Language detect feature?

While on the page, open quick settings with JawsKey + V, then type Language
into the search box. Down arrow to the feature and make sure it's turned
off. You can turn it back on later if you need it.

All the Best

S B

Subject: [JAWS-Users] confusing webpage

Good Afternoon,

I have a rather odd issue with a webpage and JAWS.

I will paste the link to the page below so that if anyone would like to take
a look, feel free.

The page is in either Spanish or Italian. The speech is very fast and I need
it slower to figure out the language, I think Spanish.

That's not my problem, though.

When I select the English option, it actually goes to the English page and
shows only English on the screen. However, Jaws is still reading in the
other language.

Why would this happen and how can I fix it?

Here is the link.

Thanks.
